Yes There’s A Lockdown, But We’re Still Open & Ready To Clean Your Rugs!

2020 has been quite a year hasn’t it!?

Just when we thought that some semblance of normality was resuming, we in Wales find ourselves entering into another lockdown; albeit this time a short ‘firebreak’ of two weeks.

But how does this affect our operations here at The Rug Laundry?

Well, in reality, it doesn’t actually change that much.

We’re still collecting, cleaning and delivering rugs throughout Wales during the next couple of weeks of lockdown. In fact, much like the first longer lockdown, we’re expecting to be as busy as ever due to people spending more time at home than usual.

The advantage of the way that we run our rug cleaning service is that it is completely covid secure. We can arrange a convenient collection appointment for you from your doorstep, or you can drop off your rugs to us at our rug spa.

Our aim is to make our rug cleaning service as comfortable and reassuring as possible for our customers.

And so as you find yourselves spending more time at home in the next couple of weeks, and you’re getting distracted by a rug that has been crying out for a really proper clean (or you have a naughty pet!), please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

We’re always happy to provide a free, no obligation rug cleaning quotation.

Our rug process is the most thorough in the industry and comes at a fraction of the cost of replacing your rugs.

Whether you have a shop bought shaggy rug, or a valuable treasured family heirloom, we give each and every rug that comes through our doors the same care and attention. Because it is you Рour customers Рthat we want to thrill with our results and service.

And that is why we’ll be continuing to work throughout this latest lockdown for all our customers throughout Wales.

Rug Care

What Is Stain Protector?

What Is Stain Protector? And How Does It Work?

Stain protector is a coating that is applied to clean rugs and textiles, this coating doesn’t interact with the rug instead it interacts with the fibres that make up the rug at a molecular level, and helps prevent permanent staining. It also makes it far easier to clean up spot spills and general dirt.

Protector is completely invisible and doesn’t change the look or the feel of your rug at all. Experienced weavers that handle wool all day long can’t tell the difference between fibres that have been protected and those that haven’t. If someone spills something on your rug and then steps on it, your rug will certainly get dirty nothing can prevent that; but a protected rug will clean up easier and will be far less likely to have a permanent stain than an unprotected one.

When rugs get dirty or if there’s a spill it works its way in between the fibres of the rug, that’s not a problem because that can be cleaned out. The problem occurs when the fibres of the rug become stained with something in the spill. When everything is cleaned out from between the fibres there are sometimes stains left behind that have re-dyed the fibres, those stains are now a permanent part of the rug and only expensive reweaving or re-dyeing the rug can sometimes fix the damage.

Many rugs are given up or sold because of issues with appearance, not because the rug is worn out. Good rugs can last hundreds of years but if they look terrible people often don’t want them anymore. Spills should always be cleaned up immediately or as soon as possible and from a practical standpoint what protector does is buy you time. If you have a spill you have a little more time to clean it up before it penetrates the fibres, and possibly becomes a permanent stain. This is especially true for situations involving pet urine, urine is extremely aggressive to fibres and can stain fibres even if protector has been applied. That’s why it’s important to clean up urine stains within 30 minutes using a diluted vinegar solution. If you have any questions about how to do this, give us a call and we’ll be happy to talk you through it.

Protector also makes it harder for dirt to stain your rug. Spots clean up easier and studies show that regular vacuuming is more effective when protector has been applied. If your rug isn’t regularly vacuumed you might not notice this. If your rug is regularly maintained, you’ll likely notice a decreased need for cleaning. Protector really isn’t meant to keep your rug from getting dirty, what protector does is make it far easier to clean up. Protector does cost extra but compared to the cost of a rug, or even just the cost of cleaning it’s inexpensive. As rug cleaners, we hate to see beautiful pieces of textile art that took months to make by hand ruined because of permanent stains. This is why we not only recommend protectors for all of our clients, but we use it on our own personal rugs as well, because we believe it works.

If you have any questions about protector or any other questions about your rugs, give us a call or complete our contact form and we’ll be happy to help.

We collect, clean and deliver rugs throughout South Wales, including Carmarthen, Cardiff, Swansea and Newport.

Professional Rug Spa Cleaning vs Standard In-Situ Rug Cleaning

If you’re searching the web for a local rug cleaning company, you’ll be presented with many options.

Each business will promise great results, but do they all offer the same service?

The answer is no.

Rug Cleaning Methods

Many people assume that all rugs are cleaned the same way as a fitted carpet and that all companies will come to the home to clean rugs.

For the most part this is true – the vast majority of cleaning companies will merely clean your rugs using a portable carpet cleaning machine in your home.

But does the same method of cleaning a carpet attain the best results for rugs?

Well, we’d argue that it fails to even achieve an acceptable cleaning result.

Here’s why:

Standard rug cleaning is surface cleaning

If you’ve ever had your carpets cleaned (or indeed your rugs) you’ll have noticed that the carpet is merely cleaned across the surface of the fibres using an attachment called a ‘wand.’

While this can achieve superficial results and remove some surface stains, it cannot remove all the grit and soils from deep in your rugs and it won’t result in a truly hygienically clean rug. Indeed, it is very difficult for this cleaning method to remove stubborn urine odours and bacteria.

The standard carpet cleaning process is not suitable to clean the back of rugs and so it is only the fibres of the top surface that can be cleaned. In addition to this, if you’re having your carpet cleaned in your home, the company will likely be using the same harsh chemicals that are used to clean a standard fitted carpet. These chemicals can result in the colours bleeding from your rug and can sometimes cause irreparable damage.
